One of the most beloved and talented beatmakers of his time, it’s no hyperbole to say that Nujabes was second only to J Dilla in the pantheon of 20th century beats producers.
Spanning not just hip-hop but nu-jazz, breakbeat, trip hop and much more besides, Nujabes’ oeuvre is dense in its orchestration and musicality, making it rich subject matter for reinterpretation.
To honour the life and work of Nujabes which was cut tragically short by a traffic accident, we have commissioned London-based ensemble Stompy’s Playground, who specialise in recreating electronic music using a combination of orchestral instruments, synthesizer and drum kit.
Heading up the project is producer Kidkanevil, who himself was and still is heavily influenced by Nujabes and the Far East beats scene.
